For many reasons, a patient could need a higher level of attention and monitoring during their hospital stay. This may be due to surgeries, trauma and more. These patients are cared for in an intensive care unit, or ICU. Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System offers an array of critical care services across the Upstate.
The Critical Care Pavilion at Spartanburg Medical Center is a 110,000-square-foot space that houses four intensive care units:
- Medical ICU
- Surgical ICU
- Neuro ICU
- Medical-Surgical Unit
The pavilion, which opened in March 2018, houses 46 adult critical care beds and 22 medical/surgical beds.
Completely built by the Spartanburg Medical Center facilities department, the area was designed with comfort and care in mind. Charting stations outside of every room allow nurses to stay close to patients. The critical care rooms are larger to better accommodate visiting family members of ICU patients, state-of-the-art medical equipment and lifts to assist nurses in moving patients.
At the heart of the pavilion is a state-of-the-art central telemetry monitoring station where observers oversee patient vital signs throughout the hospital.
The large waiting room is filled with natural light, comfortable seating and charging stations. Spaces for sensitive discussions are also available behind privacy screens in the waiting room. The pavilion has a dedicated parking area for critical care patients and visitors located off Serpentine Drive.
